About Duluth Citizen

Duluth Citizen is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit news organization with a three-fold mission:

  1. Build a web-based news and information community with complimentary print products that feature quality, issues-based journalistic coverage of the region.
  2. Elevate civic debate on challenges facing the region by focusing on facts, ideas and solutions while de-emphasizing, without avoiding controversy.
  3. Fuse new and seasoned journalists by capitalizing on the strengths of all while improving individual contribution through best-practice, training and research.

In short: we’re building a non-profit newspaper with less paper, less overhead and more thoughtful journalism. Our goal is not not broadcast a message, but to have a conversation. We will do so by building the organization around you and around us.

This project is literally happening from the bottom up and we’re kicking things off with a robust community forum. The news website and print edition will follow in 2010. Enjoy…
