The state of newspapers today: Check out the following link (via Romensko) about the Dallas Morning News. I’m trying to imagine a features editor (or any newsroom manager) reporting directly to an ad manager. I’m all for collaboration but this seems like a dangerous move to me.

Your garden sounds fabulous! Have you thought about motion-detecting sprinklers to keep deer from feeding on your vegetables. We have a couple (called scarecrows) that we use during the growing season and they help a lot. They’re also easy to set up and move around.

We got nipped last week. Fortunately, I was paying attention for once and managed to move all the houseplants/tender stuff back into the house for the winter. And we did the major harvest of tomatoes, corn, basil before the temperature dropped. So actually, we’re in decent shape — the eggplant and tender annuals such as heliotrope are toast, but we’re still getting a good show from mums, asters and snapdragons. With the recent rain, the extravaganza of fall foliage is cranking up. Love those golds, bronzes, oranges and reds!
